No News Day Two

Our "news strike" is actually having a perceptible effect - less angst, and a better overall settledness. Hard to describe, but noticeable.

We walked the west and south fence lines today - they were scheduled to be replaced this year, but I don't think we'll have the money available. All materials have increased appreciably in cost since we priced them last year. The fencing itself would cost nearly a third more than the budget would allow. So, we're making other plans, and thinking about a solar electric setup that would at least keep the goats from roaming the neighbors corn.

The other benefit of the kind of setup we're thinking about would be it's utility in the future, when we do have the time and money top replace the fencing. The electric charger would be portable enough to allow us to block off the pasture piecemeal while we worked, instead of just herding everybody up front and locking the gate. That would be a significant advantage if for no other reason than hauling water. But we'll have to price it out and see - times are tough, in case there's anybody out there that hasn't noticed yet.
