Dean Defends Criticism of Republican Party

What's to defend? He's right! Not every single Republican (obviously) is both white and Christian, but the number of minorities registering as Republicans is miniscule, and the Christian Right has captured the agenda of the party in toto. If you need further proof, just see here.

AP - Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean on Wednesday defended his recent harsh criticism of Republicans, including his observation that they are "pretty much a white, Christian party."

Women's issues are pandered to more by the Dems, but hardly ever given serious conscideration. Also, the Dems have to ditch everyone poisoned by the Clintonian Dynasty. (I'm talking to you Hillary, beat it, we don't need it!) Time for fresh blood, new thinking, and most of all, a firm and unwavering stance on the issues that make the Dems look different than the Republicans. And if people want to talk about "morals" as if that word meant one thing, a few snappy comeback lines wouldn't hurt either. Dems need to stop being afraid of politics. This isn't football, I shouldn't see guys on the bench waiting to do something!

Ya know, I actually agree with the main thrust of this post: it really is refreshing to see a politician stand up and get counted for something they honestly believe in, and damn the political consequences. The last time I got really energized over a political campaign (i.e. enough to volunteer for phone banks, etc.) was 1998 when Jesse Ventura ran (and won) for Governor of Minnesota. The upshot of it was that I didn't agree with all (perhaps not even with most) of his proposed policies: but *he* did - he really believed in what he was saying, and would say it to anyone, regardless of the political fallout. For example, he stood up and gave a pro-choice stump speech at a pro-life rally! He told students at U of M to expect budget cuts and get get out and find jobs to earn spending money. He called organized religion "a crutch for weak people" and said that St. Paul's streets must've been laid out by a drunken Irishman! But the best part of all was watching the "professional pols" squirm every time he opened his mouth! They had no idea (for a while, anyway) what to say or do in reaction to this kind of in your face honesty. It was amazing how much unity the DFL (Democrats in MN) and Republicans found in the legislature when Jesse was governor - they were united to save their turf from this "radical" upstart.
