Religious Right Attacks Cartoon Sponge

This is popping up all olver the place: the BBC has the story, as does the New York Times. Apparently, Dr. James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family and a guiding light of the religious right, thinks our favorite cartoon sponge is ... gay.

How can this be? Why does the esteemed doctor think SpongeBob is a homosexual?

SpongeBob - who appears on the children's cable channel Nickelodeon - is seen as an icon for adult gay men in the US, apparently because he regularly holds hands with his sidekick Patrick.

This from a man with significant influence at the highest levels of the Bush administration. For once, the sheer stupidity of the the idiots in the halls of power have struck me speechless. Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Accusing the sponge of appearing in a "pro-homosexual video," the religious right appears to have sunk to a new low...
