Nominee Has Some Unexpected Supporters

I think this guy's earned his legal chops, unlike the previous crony nominee. I seem to have little or no problem with very "conservative" judges, and have become actually rather fond of Clarance Thomas' opinions and philosophy - I may not agree with all of them, but I do agree with a surprising percentage, and he's a pretty staunch states-rights kinda guy. If Roberts and Alito follow this trend we may see fewer rulings of the recent Kelo and medical marijuana variety, where the power of the government trumped all other concerns.

Los Angeles Times - WASHINGTON — Samuel A. Alito Jr. was quickly branded a hard-core conservative after President Bush announced his nomination, but a surprising number of liberal-leaning judges and ex-clerks say they support his elevation to the Supreme Court.

Notes: If you put a <mailto:> link in the URL field your address will not be mangled: this could be a bad idea as your email address could be easily harvested by bots designed for SPAM. The comments field should now format correctly for line feeds and carriage returns: when you hit the 'Enter' or 'Return' keys in your comment it should break to a new line. The text should wrap cleanly. Please let me know if it doesn't. No HTML tags will pass through - entering links seems to be the main cause of comment SPAM. Also, please be sure that Javascript is enabled in your browser before attempting to post a writeback. Sorry for any inconvenience, but this really helps cut down on the amount of comment SPAM I have to deal with.
