Prop 8 backers: Void same-sex marriages

Wouldn't nullifying existing marriage contracts because of this recent initiative be a "Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts":

Constitution of the United States, Section 10, Clause 1 (Contracts Clause): No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

Of course, government at all levels regularly ignores the Constitution, but I think this one's pretty clear. It'll be interesting to se if they actually follow it, or how they try to wiggle out.

Sponsors of the California ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage is seeking to nullify thousands of marriages performed between gay and lesbian couples.

Notes: If you put a <mailto:> link in the URL field your address will not be mangled: this could be a bad idea as your email address could be easily harvested by bots designed for SPAM. The comments field should now format correctly for line feeds and carriage returns: when you hit the 'Enter' or 'Return' keys in your comment it should break to a new line. The text should wrap cleanly. Please let me know if it doesn't. No HTML tags will pass through - entering links seems to be the main cause of comment SPAM. Also, please be sure that Javascript is enabled in your browser before attempting to post a writeback. Sorry for any inconvenience, but this really helps cut down on the amount of comment SPAM I have to deal with.
