Methinks that perhaps we have things a bit reversed here: a conviction for rape in Arizona carries a minimum of 5.25 years and a max of 14 years.

The US Supreme Court refuses to hear an appeal by a teacher jailed for 200 years for possessing child porn.

according to that chart I linked if this bozo had actually molested some of the kids in the pics, he would've (potentially) gotten a lesser minium sentence! Somehow, having a photo of a crime has become worse than actually committing the crime! Idiots! If punishment is to be a successful deterrent then it must fit the crime. And, more importantly, judges need to be given the latitude to enforce that fitting. So called "sentencing guidelines" seemingly desire to replace judges with computer programs, and that's gonna lead to some really wild scenes of "crime and punishment" is we aren't careful.
