Virtual reality puts telepathy to the test

Interesting experimental methodology, but why couldn't they just use objects in the real world, with the test subjects separated? I can't see where the "virtuality" of the setup contributes anything, really.

Scientists at The University of Manchester have created a virtual computer world designed to test telepathic ability.

We know this is true of radio waves. By creating virtual-reality isolation chambers rather than physical ones, they can eliminate the space issue. Although, now that I look at the EurekAlert, I see they *are* physically seperated. So I don't know.

The programming of the computers involved is something that can be examined on demand (and reproduced) by other scientists, and so impartiality, objectivity and the ability to consistently reproduce results can be verified. With valid objectivity, the results of the experiments would tend to be more readily agreed upon by scientists. It would also mean that a means of objectively studying any detected telepathy would be readily available.
