Mom's Home

from the hospital - I think the major driving philosophy behind most health care these days can be best described by a phrase I used to hear applied to short term relationships: Wham, bam, thank you, ma'am!

Speed is of the essence, apparently, and the shorter your stay in any facility, the better. An admirable goal, to be sure, but there are times...

She can barely walk on her own, and her apartment isn't set up at all to handle a wheelchair. Our house is two stories, with no bedrooms down and no bathrooms up. The Visiting Nurse Service has been prescribed by her family doctor, but didn't call or show up today at all, despite calling her at the hospital this morning before she left and making arrangements.

She has to re-qualify for Meals on Wheels, which may be problematic following the Bush Medicare fiasco. It seems as though her "savings" on her prescriptions are now counted as income.

Consequently, we're even busier. I wasn't sure that was possible. I was wrong.
