Great Populist Ranting

can be always be found at Ashes Ashes All Fall Down but his New Years Resolution 2009 is a doozy. Complete with a whiff of left libertarian strategy, it's essentially an obscenity laced screed for a general strike. Beware of the f-bomb, and don't sent the link to the swearing sensitive. And what a rant it is!

But there's a problem with this strategy, and it has to do with the entire purpose of the strategy itself: there's safety in numbers. If enough people defy the law, the law is essentially void, as "they" can't lock us all up, can they?

But how could you be sure, as you stopped paying your bills, that you weren't the only one doing it? Do you believe every post on a bulletin board or blog that you read? Of course not - and a great many people who would voice support for these actions would not actually take them, vastly reducing the "safety in numbers" effect.

Until and unless we're ready to take to the streets for a real revolution, trying to get people to just stop paying their bills or just tear up and ignore their tax bills and traffic tickets is pointless and futile. Bodies in the street can be counted - on the Internet, nobody knows how many dogs there are ... just ask Ron Paul.

Toilets, Trucks and Tractors

Well, one of our customs has bit the dust: we didn't watch LOTR this year: we were too busy trying to fix the toilet and worrying about the broken down truck. We'll probably have to spend some of the dough we've saved for a tractor on one or both.

Happy New Year. Right.
