Pro-gun US Senate pick makes some NY pols unhappy

I must admit to being very surprised. Maybe these really are "new" Democrats, willing to chuck some of the positions that get them in trouble with the country at large, and really try governing with something like consensus.

We'll see.

Chess Player Cleared After Failing to Take Drug Test

How much does a chess piece weigh? Would steroids really help players move faster? Do stoned players make better moves? Does acid assist in move look-ahead?

Maybe I need to start a new category on the blog for stories like this one: call it 'Sheer Stupidity'.

Maybe Vassily Ivanchuk can just play chess now. Ivanchuk, the No. 3 player in the world, who has been a fixture among the game’s elite for two decades will not be suspended for failing to take a drug test at the conclusion of the Chess Olympiad last year.
