In general, I do not have a problem with reimagining characters. In fact, I can often applaud (theater) companies for taking classic characters/plays and casting them in unfamiliar or updated guises. For example, "Othello" in WWII, "The Tempest" in a psychiatric hospital. Regarding "Romeo + Juliet", however, I have to agree with Erik. There are no redeeming qualities in that film. Regarding the classic cartoon properties mentioned in this article ... I tremble for the children.
