Rain Today

Well, nearly 8 inches of rain in the last 36 hours - can you say soaked? We don't seem to get summer showers anymore, it's either a drought or a deluge.

But we're shipping fleece like crazy. We posted to some spinning and weaving groups on Yahoo! and things just took off. We'll be shipping 8 tomorrow, and waiting on payment for three or four more. We've sold half our supply - we're down to 24 available, and that includes the ones that are spoken for but not yet paid for.

It seems as though a Suffolk fleece has some qualities that spinners really like - it's easy to work with, springy and (several people have told me this) makes great socks! I Googled for Suffolk fleeces for sale today and came up with nothing but us! Nobody else bothers selling the wool for "meadow maggots"! We may have found our niche market.

We also got into the rabbit business over the weekend - we now own two English Angora rabbits. These are fleece bunnies, and as such have made their home on the mud porch, away from all that yucky debris in the barn and garage. The fleece sells for between $4 and $8 per ounce - and each rabbit can produce up to a pound of fleece every six months. We had several inquiries for Angora fleece, so we'll give it a try. Kris also thinks we can sell bunnies to the 4Her's this next spring, as nobody in Boone County breeds Angoras.

Notes: If you put a <mailto:> link in the URL field your address will not be mangled: this could be a bad idea as your email address could be easily harvested by bots designed for SPAM. The comments field should now format correctly for line feeds and carriage returns: when you hit the 'Enter' or 'Return' keys in your comment it should break to a new line. The text should wrap cleanly. Please let me know if it doesn't. No HTML tags will pass through - entering links seems to be the main cause of comment SPAM. Also, please be sure that Javascript is enabled in your browser before attempting to post a writeback. Sorry for any inconvenience, but this really helps cut down on the amount of comment SPAM I have to deal with.
