Can Apple turn the tables on Microsoft?

I doubt that the increase in Mac market share will be anything resembling "dramatic", even if it should be. Business is just to entrenched to change their ways overnight, and there's the whole issue of legacy applications that would need migration to take into account. But still ...

I read somewhere yesterday that one of the reasons for the delay was to decrease the number of times a machine must be rebooted: I've never had to reboot my Powerbook due to a software or operating system error, and we've only rebooted Big Mac a couple of times: both when it was running "Virtual PC".

My Windows box, on the other hand, running XP SP2, gets rebooted at least once a week, and frequently more often than that.

Now that Windows Vista has been delayed, it's time to ask a once-unthinkable question: Can the Macintosh finally take back business...

Are you adding a bunch of new software? I typically don't have to reboot my XP Pro machine unless I'm adding software or the M$ patches. I suppose I average a reboot once every month... somtimes the reboot is becasue I'm pretty cautious and shutdown my PC if I'm home and there's a big electrical storm. I don't recall a reboot due to a software error unlike the old days prior to XP.

is a funny thing: a lot better than previous Windows versions, but also alot more machine dependent. My old Sony box was very stable running XP, until it's hard drive crashed. The new (well, year and a half old, now) Medion box was pretty stable at first, but has slowly grown increasingly flaky over time, as more software is added and new devices plugged in. I use this for a lot of audio processing and pretty computationally intense stuff, so I'm admittedly stressing the machine: a "typical home user" I ain't!
