Why Napster will be a fully-integrated flop

I just can't believe that they think people will actually rent music ... but, then again, this is all strangely familiar to those of us who have read The Age of Access. A disturbing vision - I only hope that it crashes and burns early and doesn't catch on as a general trend.

Napster today graced the world with a "revolutionary new way to enjoy music" by starting something called the Napster To Go service. As we all know, revolutions often deliver unintended consequences. So let's have a look at where Napster's service may lead.

Koranic duels ease terror

This approach offers some hope for striking Islamofascist terrorism at the root - I'm just surprised it works. In my arguments/debates/discussions with rabid fundies here, I've made no headway at all. They seem to have the attitude that "God said it, I believe it, that settles it!", and nothing will dissuade them from their appointed date with Absolute Truth.

I wish the Yemani imam continued good luck!

In Yemen, a theological contest cools Al Qaeda hotbed.

A Moral Collapse

Some folks (OK, a lot of folks) make the claim that this nation is in a state of "moral collapse" - that we're drifiting without ethical values towards some abyss or another. Ususally, these folks demand we adopt a religion (always their religion, incidentially) to cure this problem.

I have a simpler solution:

The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.

--Shakespeare, Henry VI, Part II

Two Durango teens thought they'd surprise neighbors with nighttime deliveries of home-baked treats. But one woman was so terrified, she sued and has won. But Wanita Renea Young, 49, was so unnerved by the knocks at her door at 10:30 p.m. that she called sheriffs and then sought emergency room care for an anxiety attack. The teenage cookie-leavers, Taylor Ostergaard and Lindsey Jo Zellitti, wrote her letters of apology, but she sued anyway and won $900.
