Back Home Again

I was on a smoke break at work about 2 today when a call came in on my cell from an unrecognized number, which was in itself somewhat remarkable. The contents of the call were even moreso.

It was a Border Collie breeder in Zionsville, who had gotten my number from Tim (who's also a breeder). A friend of theirs had found a stray Border Collie "out towards Crawfordsville" on State Road 32 and had brought her to them. The dog looked an awful lot like some of theirs, which had come originally from Tim, so they called him and asked if he was missing a dog. He wasn't but he knew I was, and had them call me.

It was Cubby. She's back home after nearly 6 weeks.

Count me officially in the camp that believes in miracles.

Hurray for found dogs! I had a collie mix disappear for two months once, but I am pretty sure that she was kidnapped. She came home skinny, with her claws worn down, and a tapeworm, so maybe she found her own way back and ate carrion. But I'll never know.

Who would make them go nuts (if they had big enough brains for that) without her? aThe timing of the post gave me hope. We got home Friday night and found our puppy missing. I think Eric was more worried than I; our next-door neighbor's dog passed away last month, and they've been calling her to come over through the invisible fence and rewarding her with treats for breaking out to go play with them. We need to talk with them again - this undermines our authority and has undone hours of work trying to train her to stay within her boundaries, but at least she's not in imminent danger. She still seems scared of the fence on the side of the yard by the road.
