Very scary ... heretofore the virus has only spread to humans in direct contact with the birds, not human to human. But one of the victims here was an infant. And she certainly wasn't cleaning out the coop...

Bird flu is suspected to have caused the deaths of three people in Indonesia, the health minister says.

Building in Iceland? Better Clear It With the Elves First

Pretty decent article showing how ancient beliefs can survive. Although the author does seem to get the letters 'r' and 'c' confused at one point, when she refers to Iceland's "Celtic traditions" ...

Polls consistently show that the majority of the population either believes in elves - generally described as humanlike creatures who are fiercely protective of their rocky homes - or is not willing to rule out their existence.

Christian adoption agency snubs Catholics

"Choose Life" indeed - as long as it's a Christian life, and a very specific kind of Christian life, apparently. Of course, in this era of faith-based government initiatives, hardly anything surprises me.

A Christian adoption agency that receives money from Choose Life license plate fees said it does not place children with Roman Catholic couples because their religion conflicts with the agency's "Statement of Faith."
